At Homestead Building Systems, Inc. we are proud of the fact that the engineered lumber systems that we sell are environmentally friendly. By better utilizing wood fibers, less trees are required to frame a house with our engineered wood products than with conventional framing techniques using dimensional lumber. Additionally, our products do not require “old growth” timber. They can be manufactured from harvested lumber that is a renewable wood source. With continuing environmental pressures, and as home builders and consumers become more informed, we feel the demand for engineered lumber will continue at a strong pace for a very long time.
Through the benefit of the components, the house can be framed in less time. This results in fewer trips by multiple field installers to the jobsite each day. Less waste going into the dumpsters to be hauled to the landfills. The house is under roof sooner so there is less chance of theft, mold and other negative impacts related to exposure to the elements.
Advantages & Future Innovations
- Scraps are ground to be used as mulch and farm animal bedding
- Our future plan is to add a wood pelletizer to transform the wood fiber into renewable energy
- Every piece of lumber that can be reused is put into a wall panel or truss
- Plan to heat the shop floor with steam generated from water collected from the roof downspouts
